The conversations that take place in the USF Writing Center are conducted primarily through face-to-face appointments held in the lower level of Mears Library.  When made possible due to the experience and training of the peer consultants, we try to offer two types of online appointments.  All three of these methods are described below.

Face-to-Face Appointments: Our primary and preferred means of working with writers, face-to-face appointments offer opportunities for fuller and more effective communication while discussing the writing process and a particular text. Face-to-face appointments are held in the USF Writing Center, located in the lower level of Mears Library.

Online Appointments: Online appointments enable real-time conversation via audio and or video conferencing. Writers who select online appointments should log back into the WC online website five to ten minutes before the start of the appointment. Click on the appointment, and then click on the link that reads "start or Join Online Consultation." The writer will then be able to converse with a peer consultant. The conferencing platform also includes a chat feature and a whiteboard feature.

eTutoring Appointments: eTutoring appointments enable asynchronous conversation through an exchange of digital files. Writers who select eTutoring appointments will upload up to three (3) documents. We ask that writers upload at least two (2) documents: a copy of the assignment sheet and a draft of the paper. Once a peer consultant has responded to the paper, the writer will receive an email with the feedback while attached.

Both online appointments and eTutoring appointments are often new to both students and the peer consultants in the USF Writing Center. If a face-to-face conference is impossible or undesirable, we ask you to review the resources below in order to learn more about the logistics of both eTutoring and online conferencing, as each type of appointment has distinct strengths and limitations. We suggest that you watch the videos first and then use the handouts as a guide through the process.
