Description

This course will explore the role of literature and reading in our experience of culture. Our reading and conversation will be all about love, or more specifically, on courtship and marriage as a means of acting out love. How do various genres of literature represent the emotions, the behaviors, and the rules surrounding love? And how does this shift according to genre, to time, and to place. We will be reading and analyzing a variet of genres (poetry, novel, film, drama, essay, music), with each text touching on these questions--sometimes directly, sometimes as context for exploring other themes. Ultimately, we will seek to acknowledge and appreciate literature as a means of expanding our awareness of both our experience and our culture. Prerequisite: LAR111. Fulfills Liberal Art Core Literature requirement. 3 sh.
