Description
		
			Social Welfare Policy is the process utilized by society to create 
structures to manage social problems, and influence directly and 
indirectly programs and systems. Social Policy can be complex, 
controversial and an opportunity for social workers to demonstrate 
professional leadership as a means to inform social advocacy to the 
benefit of vulnerable, disenfranchised and oppressed populations. In 
the course students will increase their understanding of the 
historical perspective of social welfare policy and current 
structures. Students will apply critical thinking skills to analyze 
the development and current social welfare state of the United 
States. Students will analyze social welfare legislation and policy 
issues at the federal, state or local level from the perspectives 
of: formulation, allocation, provision, economics and service 
delivery. Students will examine social problems in diverse setting 
and analyze the relationship of problems to existing policies or 
law. S
