Description

This is an anti-racism course focusing on understanding historical and current relations between white Americans and Native Americans with an emphasis on Lakota/white relations as this course is taught in South Dakota. Inter-group theory will be the primary lens through which cross-cultural contact will be examined. The course will emphasize cross-cultural sensitivity rather than Lakota cultural competence. Lakota history and culture will be part of the course, but those components will serve to better understand inter-group experience and racism. Fulfills the intercultural awareness core course requirement. (3 s.h.)
