This course will provide an introduction to operating system design and implementation. The operating system is responsible for allowing resources to be shared, providing common services neede by many different programs, and protecting individual programs from one another. Emphasis will be given to four major OS subsystems: process management, memory management, file systems, and operating system support for distributed systems. (3 s.h.)
