This course engages the broad question of why literature matters within the specific context of Christian faith. We will explore the role of the imagination and of imaginative literature, in particular, in expressing key theological ideas like creation, incarnation, sacrifice, sin, forgiveness, and grace. While this course will use some biblical texts as texts, most of what we read will be similar to what we read in any ENG200 course. However, our conversations will be decidedly steered toward examining how the study of literature (even of secular texts) can be a meaningful spiritual discipline.
