Gods and goddesses. Monsters. Heroes. Wars. Families. Intrigue. Tragedy. Comedy. And finally understanding what that giant wooden rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail is all about. This course will be a general introduction to classical literature and mythology in the Greek and Roman traditions. We'll read epic poetry, classical tragedy and comedy, and renderings of myths that still pervade western literature and culture. Additionally, we'll read and watch contemporary revisions of the classical myths in order to see what ancient myth can still communicate today. This course fulfills the liberal arts core requirement for literature and serves as an elective for the English major. (3 s.h.)
