A study of the writers of the American Renaissance and their contemporaries. Genres and themes important to the period will be studied in such writers as Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville, Whitman, Twain and Dickinson. Offered alternate years. Prerequisite: ENG 200, 220, 221, or 222.
