A study of the social and cultural contexts of language examining the relationships, structures, and ideologies in culture. Includes language variation, as determined by region, sex, social status, cultural group, and industry. Consideration of the manner in which speakers and writers use language to construct identities and interact with different audiences. Prerequisite: LAR112 or LAR212 (3 s.h.)
