Description

This course will examine the profession of social work, its historical roots and trends, the role of the generalist, and the settings of practice. Contemporary and future issues facing the profession will be explored. The critical nature of lifelong learning and evidence-based practice will be stressed. Skills of practice across boundaries of difference will be covered including older adults, homeless, children, women, GLBT, disabilities, refugees and immigrants, religions, ethnicity, culture and nationalities. The concept of systemic oppression will be introduced. (3 s.h.)
