USF Campus Wide Wireless and Wired Residence Hall Device Connection

What is Eduroam?  Eduroam is an international Wi-Fi internet access roaming service for users in research, higher education, and further education. It provides researchers, educators, and students network access when visiting an institution other than their own.  More info can be found at https://eduroam.org

Step-by-step instructions for all device types are listed below.



iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad)                

1. Go to Settings, then Wi-Fi, and select the eduroam network.
2. Enter the following information and then press Join.
  • Username - MyUSF username (Example: Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
  • Password - MyUSF password
3. On the next screen press "Trust" in the upper right corner to accept the wireless certificate and complete the connection.
4. Verify you are connected by visiting my.usiouxfalls.edu



Android Devices              

1. Navigate to your device's list of wireless networks and select the eduroam network.
2. Use the following settings required by your Android device:
  • Username - MyUSF username (Example: Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
  • Password - MyUSF password
  • EAP Method - PEAP
  • Phase 2 Authentication - MSCHAPv2
  • Anonymous Identity - Anonymous
  • Certificate - Use System Certificates
  • Domain - usiouxfalls.edu
3. Select "Connect".
4. Verify you are connected by visiting my.usiouxfalls.edu



Windows (laptops)              

1. Click on the wireless icon in the lower right toolbar and select "USF Onboarding".
2. Open a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, IE).
3. Read the Acceptable Use Policy and click "I accept the terms".
4. Enter the following information and then press "Continue".
  • Username - MyUSF username (Example: Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
  • Password - MyUSF password
5. Click "Install Agent" and choose "Save File" from the pop-up screen.
6. Locate the file in your download folder and double click to run.
7. Click Run or OK to allow the file to execute.
8. Click "Configure" from the new window pop up.
9. Click "OK" on the pop up window.
10. Click on the wireless icon in the lower right toolbar and select eduroam.
11. Enter the following information and then press "Continue".
  • Username - MyUSF username (Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
  • Password - MyUSF Password
12. Verify you are connected by visiting my.usiouxfalls.edu



macOS (MacBook)              

1. Click on the wireless icon on the upper taskbar on your desktop and then select the eduroam
2. Enter the following information and then press "Join".
  • Username - MyUSF username (Example: Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
  • Password - MyUSF password
3. Click "Continue" or "Trust" if you are asked to verify a certificate.
4. Enter your computer admin password if you receive "You are making changes to your Trust Certificate Settings" and then click "Update Settings".
5. Verify you are connected by visiting my.usiouxfalls.edu



Guest Wireless

1. Navigate to your device's list of wireless networks and select the USF Guest network.
2. Click "Guest signup".
3. Read the Acceptable Use policy and click "I accept the terms".
4. Enter a valid email address and click "Continue".
5. Verify that you are redirected to www.usiouxfalls.edu

 

 

Game Consoles, Smart TVS, and Media Devices

Game consoles, Smart TVs, and Media Streaming Devices must be individually registered in order to connect to the USF wired and/or wireless network.

To begin registration for a device, you will first need to be connected via Ethernet cable or to the wireless network USF IoT. Enter your USF username and password if prompted by your device.

 

1. Using a laptop or USF computer, open the following link:
https://pf.usiouxfalls.edu/device-registration
 
2. Enter the following information and then press "Login".
  • Username - MyUSF username (Example: Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
  • Password - MyUSF Password
3. This page shows your current registered devices. Click "Register Another Device".
4. Enter the MAC address of the device that you are adding and click "Register".
5. Reboot your device and verify that it is now online.  

 



Alexa/Echo Dot                  

  1. In the Alexa app, open the left navigation panel and select Settings.
  2. Select your device then select Update Wi-Fi. If you're adding a new device to your account, select Set up a new device instead.
  3. On your Echo device, press and hold the Action button for five seconds. The light ring will change to orange and your mobile device will connect to your Echo device. A list of available Wi-Fi networks appear in the app.

    Note: The Alexa app may ask you to manually connect your device to your Echo device through your Wi-Fi settings.
  4. Before completing setup and selecting a network, you'll need to add your Echo Dot to the USF Wireless Enrollment portal using its MAC address. You can find the MAC address listed at the very bottom of the About section.
    1. Go to https://10.1.2.30/device-registration
    2. Sign in with your MyUSF username and password.
    3. Click Register Another Device.
    4. Enter the MAC address in the Device ID field and click Register.
  5. In the Alexa app, select eduroam from the list of available networks.
  6. Select Connect. After your device connects to your Wi-Fi network, a confirmation message will appear in the app. You're now ready to use Alexa.

Any additional smart devices that connect to Amazon Echo Dot will require the MAC address of the device entered into MyDevices in order to work on USF’s Wireless Network. If you are still having trouble connecting, check out Amazon's Echo Dot support articles.



Find your MAC address

Apple TV

From the main menu, choose Settings, and then click About or Network. Look for the MAC address next to "Ethernet Address" for the wired network or "Wi-Fi address" for the wireless connection. Alternatively, you may find the MAC address printed on the UPC label on the Apple TV box.

Google TV

From Settings, select Network, and then Status. Your MAC address will appear on the screen.

Google Chromecast, Home, and Nest

**Please note that due to configuration and setup requirements Google Chromecasts, Homes, and Nests are not supported on the USF network.**

Roku

From the Roku home screen, select Settings, and then About. The MAC address will appear on your screen. Alternatively, you can find the MAC address on the bottom or back of your Roku.

Sony Blu-Ray Disc player

TiVo

From the TiVo Menu, select Settings, and then choose Phone/Network. Your MAC address will appear on the page that opens.

Vizio Smart TV

Press the Menu button on the remote and select Network, and then Manual Setup. The RJ45 (wired) and/or Wireless MAC address will appear on the screen.

Seiki Smart TV

From Settings, go to Setup, and then Network, and then IP address. Both the wireless and wired MAC addresses are listed on this page.



Basic Connection Settings

  • Connect to the wireless network eduroam
  • Use the following settings if prompted:
    • USF username (Example: Cooper Cougar = cocougar)
    • Password - Your USF password
    • EAP Method - PEAP
    • Phase 2 Authentication - MSCHAPv2
    • Anonymous Identity - Anonymous
    • Certificate - Use System Certificates
    • Domain - usiouxfalls.edu
